Plan a Safer Walk on Hot Days

Hot weather can change a good walking plan. CDC guidance recommends staying cool, staying hydrated, knowing overheating symptoms, and scheduling outdoor activity during cooler parts of the day when possible.

Check before you go

  • Review local heat and air-quality conditions.
  • Move the walk to a cooler time or indoor location when needed.
  • Carry water, choose shade, and take breaks.
  • Stop and seek appropriate help if concerning symptoms appear.

Older adults, people with chronic conditions, pregnant people, and others may need additional precautions. A personalized heat plan should come from a health professional.
